Just Get Moving for Heart Health
According to new research published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, the key to improving your health while living with coronary heart disease is exercise!
Those with coronary heart disease (CHD) have long been told by healthcare professionals to stay active and maintain a healthy weight. We’re now learning that staying active may be the most important component of the guidelines. This study monitored over 3,000 people for over 30 years and found that weight loss did not lower the risk of death in individuals with CHD. Interestingly, the one thing that greatly reduced the risk of death was sustained physical activity! Compared to patients who were inactive, those who worked out moderately for 150 minutes per week reduced their risk by 19 percent. Patients who exercised more had a 36 percent reduction!
