Scientists are on their way to proving that exercise “may slow aging deep within our cells” reports the New York Times. We all know that we feel great when incorporating more physical activity into our routine, and it turns out there is physical evidence in our cells that this is true. Our DNA is capped by protective ends called telomeres. As we age, these caps get shorter and shorter which leaves our precious genetic material vulnerable. Research out of University of California San Francisco and University of Mississippi has found that there is a correlation between physical activity and telomere length. That is the more people exercise as a part of their routine, the less the telomeres diminish with age. The bottom line: get moving, your jeans/genes will thank you!
