I can still remember my first Hilliard Studio Method class like it was yesterday. It was about seven years ago, at the old Park Road studio, and I had no idea what to expect. I was told by the team at Lululemon that it was a barre class like no other. Everyone had a hard time trying to explain ‘The Method.’ I walked into class and shared with Liz and Clary that I was a marathon runner, and truthfully in my head was wondering if I would even break a sweat. It was about five minutes into class that I realized every part of my body was shaking, and that running marathons was easy compared to this class. Needless to say, I was hooked!
After seven years, I am still in awe when it comes to the moves that these ladies think of, and how they manage to find muscles that I never knew I had. I love the energy right when you walk in the door, I love the ‘girl power’ mentality that is sprinkled throughout the class and I especially love the results I see when I commit to showing up. Every class is filled with women from all over Charlotte, who encompass all age groups, shapes and sizes, and different fitness levels. There’s nothing like noticing the woman next to you is nine months pregnant and has yet to take a break to ‘encourage’ you to keep moving.
Now that my running days are over, I am so thrilled to have found a workout that still challenges me mentally and physically. I have learned to ’embrace the shake.’ Thank you to the Hilliard team for helping to ensure that I ‘look good walking away! –Ashleigh Snyder
